I am reading To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and I am on page 207. This section of the book is about Scout and Jem. The kids are ashamed of Atticus being old, until they learn that he is the deadliest shot in Maycomb. Jem attacks Mrs. Dubose’s flowers and is forced to read to her everyday for a month. She died free from her morphine addiction and Jem starts to grow up. With Jem growing up, he does not want to spend as much time with Scout and Atticus is gone for a week due to a case. When Atticus returns, Aunt Alexandra comes to stay with them. Atticus and Alexandra fuss over if Calpernia should stay and Scout and Jem fuss because Jem is acting like he is better than Scout. Calpernia is a wonderful mother figure to Scout and Jem. One reason is because she is caring. Cal brings them to her church, because she doesn't want them to have to go to their church all alone.
