Civil Rights Research Essay Civil Rights are defined as basic liberties that ensure all people are treated equally. Despite this, some groups still struggle for fair treatment. For example, victims when it comes to sexual assault in the justice system are mistreated. To fix this issue police officers should go through better training when it comes to dealing with this because they are currently untrained. Not only will victims be treated as they deserve, better training will pay off in the long run but it will also allow everyone to feel more safe in today's society.

Resulting from the lack of sexual assault police training police officials are not exactly 'well informed' on how to deal with these kinds of cases/investigations. "revealing that a shocking 26% of all sexual offences (including rape) reported to police are not even recorded as crimes". If police officers were better trained on how to deal with sexual assault cases, they would better know how to correctly record them, and it's definitely not under non-crimes. All sexual assault cases do deserve to be at least investigated. Not only are a quite surprisingly high number of sexual assault not categorized as crimes but a high number of these are not even correct. "HM Inspectorate of constabulary report also revealed that a fifth of the decision to 'no-crime' rape reports had also been found to be incorrect". Not only are these victims doubted and have their sexual assault not taken seriously, the person who did this to them is still walking free, and fully capable of doing it again. If these officers were trained more efficiently there would be more convictions among sex offenders. If law enforcement officers were trained better more convictions would be made, but now the opposite is happening and a chain of events are occurring in which others are impacting
