The Civil Rights campaign was lead by Martin Luther King Junior. In this time period, African Africans were being treated unjustly. Some of the unjust things that were happening to african americans was they couldn’t go to the same schools or churches as white people, black people couldn’t vote, and white people even acted very violently towards them. America was taking a turn for the worst and needed a huge change. The message of the movement was to make a push for equal rights of African Americans. They were making everyone realize that discrimination is unjust and they were not going to tolerate it any longer. The African American people came together in unity. One of the biggest strategies was the Montgomery bus boycott, led by Rosa Parks. This happened when she refused to give up her seat to a white man on a public bus. She was arrested for this act. African Americans came together and unified as one and formed the bus boycott. 90 percent of African Americans took part in the boycott. This reduced the bus revenue a lot. The boycott lasted for 381 days. The segregation ordinance was finally repealed and in November of 1956 the court ordered the buses to be desegregated. This was just one event that took place in the Civil Rights Movement, but it is living proof that Nonviolence can be very effective. Another effective strategy used were nonviolent sit-ins. One of the most important sit-ins was the Greensboro sit-in. This sit-in was one of the first sit-ins and launched a wave of sit-ins across the south. The terrible Segregation that was taking place was now brought to national attention. Another important tactic that took place in the Civil rights Movement were the Freedom Riders. These were trips taken in the south to protest segregation in bus
