Racism is something that still exists today in America. By now people would have thought that we would have exterminated it.People risked their lives so they can stand against their government to produce change. Change can only be acquired if people take the necessary actions. Martin Luther King Jr. preached about how the role of a citizen is to stand against injustice. During the 1950s and 60s is when most racism and segregation was occurring. Black and whites were separated on busses, in hotels, and by bathrooms as well. As known by many people a man named Martin Luther King and a lady name Rosa parks helped put a stop to segregation. One day Rosa parks was going to her job and got on a bus. The driver told her to get to the back of the bus. Rosa parks still refused and the driver called the cops. Parks was arrested and her bail was set at ten dollars, and there was a four dollar court cost added. She was bailed out of jail on December 1, 1955, by Edgar Nixon. After being released from jail she decided to make a change. She was tired of being miss treated for the color of her skin and wanted to make a change. On December 5, 1995, Martin Luther King Jr. organized a bus boycott and told blacks from all over Alabama to not ride the buses in protest of segregation. The black community organized taxi services and walked to get to work and the places they needed to travel. For days the busses in the streets of Montgomery were empty. On December 20, 1956, the Supreme Court ordered the end of bus segregation. The bus boycott had been successful and the black community rejoiced. This was only possible through the courage of Rosa Parks. There was still racial segregation only part of the battle was one.
