For the past ten years, I have been working with and advocating for adolescents. With my son recently graduating high school, I have the capacity to focus on my goal of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. Obtaining a Master of Science in Counseling Degree at the University of Phoenix will get me one step closer to furthering my mission of helping adolescents. However, the next and most important step is applying for a professional counseling licensure in Texas, where I reside.

However, to maintain a license, I am not allowed to provide counseling services to individuals I currently or have previously had a personal connection to. There is no giving or receiving gifts from a client in goods or services as a form of payment. No counselor should get involved in a personal relationship with a client or a family member. Finally, it is unprofessional to knowingly provide services to a client that is receiving services from another mental health services provider.
Before I make most decisions in life, I review my morals and values to ensure they are in alignment with what I believe. I appreciate the standards that Texas has set forth. Working with adolescents requires extra measures in my opinion. This is a parent or guardian trusting their child(ren) are safe, supported and being helped. Conclusion
It will be both a dream and an honor to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. After reviewing the requirements, possibilities, and expectations, this is a responsibility I will not take lightly. Upholding the standards as a licensed counselor and keeping my integrity intact will help me ensure I walk in
