The rapid growth in developing countries like Ghana is mostly accompanied by the expansion of health facilities with critical care units (CCUs) being in focus. The expansion of the critical care services is often faced with challenges in expertise in critical care nursing. Newman 2003, stated that the experience of critical care nursing cannot be separated from the world in which they thrive. Thus, being up to the task of delivering optimal care should be coupled with expanding our knowledge in the critical care nursing.

Some of the courses I read include Paediatric nursing, clinical nursing practice, pharmacology but to name a few. These courses coupled with my experience in working in the various health facilities including accident and emergency units and workshops in critical care nursing have afforded me the opportunity of having a strong theoretical and practical background in critical care nursing. Based on this background and experiences, I wish to build on with Erasmus Mundus master course in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing to help me acquire the specific knowledge, skills, and the attitude to become a specialized evidence-based staff and a consultant who would collaborate with other critical care team members in providing optimal care to the critically ill patient. In addition, I aim at offering world standard critical care services and contribute to the modules aimed at nurses who undergo critical care nursing training to bridge the gap the CCU faces with the shortage of specially trained staff in nursing. My practice in the CCU and research suggest critical care nursing is a special field that requires intense training. I am very appreciative of how much I have learned through education and life experiences but I am more enthusiastic looking forward to studying at the Erasmus Mundus master course in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing.
