CRYSTAL METH In today’s society, a lot of young adults struggle with drug usage. These young adults need to know the dangerous effects and prevention of drugs like crystal meth. Crystal meth is a pure form of methamphetamine. It is called “crystal” meth because of its clear, crystal-like appearance. Unlike most other drugs, users report that they became addicted after trying crystal meth just once. Crystal meth initially causes feeling of intense pleasure, but continued abuse destroys the brain’s dopamine and serotonin receptors, making it difficult to experience the same feeling of pleasure. The reduced capacity to experience pleasure encourages dependence and addiction as the users require more and more crystal meth to get high again. Some street names for crystal meth are chalk, crank, glass, tweak, hot ice, speed, stove top, uppers, and shards. Crystal meth is usually smoke, but it can also be snorted or injected. Though teens may not seem to listen to their parents, parents still have an impact on the choices their children make. Even through the teen years, the best meth prevention is teaching loved ones about it before they start. If a person has already used meth and is trying not to use it again, they may need to change their routines, activities, and friends to form healthier habits.
