Many people in the United States have their opinion on whether this nation is a democracy. Some say the United States is a democratic nation because we have certain rights such as, freedom of speech, the right to vote, and equality. Some other nations, mainly in the Middle East, do not have the rights that we have because of the type of government they are in. Although the Bill of Rights says that the citizens of the United States have the rights listed above and many more, are the people still given these rights? This leads to the question, is the United States of America a democratic nation? The answer to this question is, no, the USA is not a democracy. They want the citizens of this nation to believe that the government does listen to the people of the United States. However, many Americans say that the government does not listen to the people and does not pay attention to what they say they want. Americans no longer have a say in what happens in this country. Recent polls have proven that an overwhelming amount of US citizens believe that both the Democratic party and the Republican party really do not understand what the country needs. For example, in the fight for tighter gun laws, the government is trying to fix this problem by consulting with one another rather than involving the citizens of this nation. If the United States was truly a democracy, the government would actually involve the citizens and care about the people’s opinions. Government officials do not realize that Americans have been feeling ignored. After analyzing data over the past years, researchers compared what the people actually wanted to what the government actually did. These researchers found that the opinions of well over 50% of Americans has been ignored by the government. Researchers said that it is almost as if the public opinion has no impact on what goes on in this nation. Another example of the government ignoring the people is when gay marriage was passed in 50 states. Although this is an example of the government finally listening to the citizens of this nation, many people believe that the passing of this law was long
