Factors that affected, Canada's benefit or detriment from World War II

(I) Imagine living in a first-world country, but still living in fear. Canada declared war on Germany in September of 1939, due to Germany taking over Europe alongside the Soviet Union and threatening the human life of Europe. Eight days after Germany's invasion of Poland, Canada declared war on Germany.

(S2) Canada benefited from partaking in World War II in terms of the economy. Following the stock market crash in October of 1929, there was an economic depression across the world with a decline in commercial activity, which was called the great depression. The main causes of the great depression were the stock market crash, buying on credit, overproduction, Canada's dependence on the USA, drought, dust storms, and an infestation of grasshoppers. These left with businesses with no money, 32% of citizens without jobs, and a loss of export markets.

The war ended the limited opportunities of the 1930s. It ended the unemployment crisis, causing the unemployment rate in Canada to fall from 11.4 percent in 1939 to 1.4 percent in 1944. This is because during the war families had at least two or more members employed, and wages also increased. Women were allowed to work at a wage similar to men as well. Thus those families spend money, bringing up the commercial activity. Which in turn brought the economy up. During this time the exports and imports of Canada were lots of trucks, tanks, and guns, in World War II. Helping Canada build relationships with other countries and strengthen our position as an autonomous country. Canada was also training British and American citizens with the air force. Lastly, Canada also provided materials for other countries, as they were well off. They provided other countries with material for weapons such as bombs.

The reason why a sudden outburst of job opportunities was partly negative was due to people from rural areas moved to urban centers creating a massive house shortage.

World War II in Canada, in terms of the economy, was overall positive. The wages went up, more people could work, and more people were working, being the cause of the house shortages.

(S3) Canada benefited from partaking in World War Two in terms of technology. Prior to World War Two, Canada was not always ahead of other countries in terms of manufacturing technology.
