The USA is a country which is known for its diversity and a population consisting of people from all over the globe. With a population surpassing 325 million, the diversity has become a distinguishing mark of the US. The term diversity is described as having a range of people with various racial, ethnic, socioeconomic and cultural background and various lifestyles, experiences and interests (kilde kommer i etterkant). The American society today is dominated by white people, but a rising flow of immigration is causing a greater and larger diversity in the United States of America than ever before.
In the modern world of today, one might argue that diversity is more important than ever. Diversity presents great opportunities where people from all over the globe can come together as one united country, like the US. On one hand, diversity can lead to conflict, where people who are “different” from us is seen as a threat to the nation. On the other hand, diversity brightens the opportunity of combining the best from both sides of the world, into one united nation. Combining the different cultures, experiences and skills broadens people’s horizon and can lead to a great internal growth, both for the citizens and the nation.
