Imagine a mother feeding her baby out of a bottle, but that bottle is booze. You would never willingly feed your baby alcohol, yet drinking while pregnant does exactly that, it kills your baby and increases miscarriage chances, however no law exists that makes drinking or smoking while pregnant illegal. If child endangerment is considered an act that renders a child to emotional or physical harm, then it should undoubtedly be considered child endangerment. Almost all babies whose mother drinks develop a disease called Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, which essentially renders the baby to negative health defects. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome can cause learning defects in a baby, or even facial abnormalities just from drinking (Pregnancy 2). Drinking while pregnant can even cause miscarriages as well, women who drink 2-3.5 drinks are 1.66 times more likely to miscarry (Pregnancy 1), and miscarriages are not a one and done. Often times they have after affects such as cramps, vomiting, even excessive bleeding as well as leading to depression (babycenter 2). A woman who drinks would risk all of this, even her baby, just to continue drinking where there are other solutions.
