The career, Emergency Medical Technician, is a vital job because EMT’s [reserve t he lives of many people every day. Emergency Medical Technicians also called EMT’s are the medical services that are alerted to come when the number 911 is dialed. Due to this they often work in the presence of Police Officers and Firemen, and they then transport the patients to medical facilities in the area. In 2012 Emergency Medical Technicians held about 239,100 jobs in America and that number has been projected to rise by about 23% by the year 2022. To become an Emergency Medical Technician, you must have your High School Diploma and Certification in CPR. You must then take a training course that lasts 1 to 2 years. This course is called Emergency Medical Technology, and can be taken locally at Jones County Junior College (JCJC). JCJC offers multiple courses and classes in this subject such as Emergency Medical Technician Basic, Patient Assessment, Pre-Hospital Care, and Fundamentals of Pre-Hospital Care.
