College is the ultimate learning experience for many young students and I feel that English 1302 has boosted that learning experience for me. I enrolled in this class because it was required but also because I am genuinely interested in literature and what it can do to help me become a more successful student and person. I have always enjoyed reading and have considered it one of my strengths in the English language. I do enjoy writing as well, but in longer essays I have had trouble with expanding on my thoughts and making my argument clear. However, thanks to English 1302 I have been able to not only enhance my reading ability but my writing ability as well. While I am grateful for this I am just as grateful for the nonacademic lessons I have learned from professor Bodily in English 1302. While helping me grow as a student, professor Bodily has also taught me to grow as a person by helping me express myself through literature. While I have found professor Bodily’s fundamentals of writing to be invaluable, I also discovered that being in his class has also made me a more informed person. In professor Bodily’s class we would have conversations that did not necessarily pertain to English, but conversations that still had value in my eyes. When not specifically discussing English in the class, we generally talked about politics and animals. I am interested in both topics but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to professor Bodily discuss these in class as I could tell he was genuinely intrigued by both politics and his animals. While it helped that my mom grew up on a farm, it was interesting to read and discuss professor Bodily’s “Blue Milk” essay. Coming into English 1302 I had no idea what the milk industry was like and this was an example of something I had no intention of learning when entering the course but am grateful for learning now that I am exiting the
