Taking EN 101 in the spring semester of 2018 at Montgomery College has impacted my writing skill in a positive way. The course provided me with fundamental skill of writing, which is useful to succeed in my studies at the college and professional career later. While I am still in the process of learning how to assimilate external information in my writing, the course enabled me to write a coherent college level essay and integrate the feedback obtained from the professor and peers in the essay.

The feedback were essential inputs for improving my writing skill. I always felt happy when the professor assigned the students in the class to a group revision of the outlines of our essays and workshop to discuss our first draft. For example, in the narrative and contrast essays, I used the outline revision feedback to refine my thesis, topics and plan of development. In the first draft of my contrast essay, the development was not clear and logical. For example, in his feedback, professor Couch demanded “cohesive plan of development.” With the input I obtained from the peer and professor, I modified the plan of development and incorporated the suggested new topics. The feedback from the professor was also about the readability of the essays with better transition and more supporting details. He also pointed out the mechanical errors in the essay. The comments always renewed my interest to improve my work. I integrated the mechanical and structural comments provided and wrote cohesive paragraphs in contrasting the gun cultures of US and Australia. By using the feedbacks effectively, not only I developed the skill how to assimilate comments into writing but also, I became a better
