The first gun control law was in the 1930's, ever since then more laws have been put into place, and today it’s a big argument on whether they should be stricter. Gun control has led to many debates over time with people wanting more gun control due to all of the deaths due to firearms, however critics argue that more gun control would be taking away our second amendment and our right to bear a firearm.

The controversy whether or not we should

First, supporters argue that putting these gun laws in place will save lives. Studies show that the United States has the highest number of deaths for homicides by firearm per 1 mile out of all countries. This stat shows that due to the US's poor gun laws, more deaths occur. The second point made by supporters is that people with a mental illness or any type of criminal background shouldn't be able to purchase a gun legally. For example, a mass shooting in 2016 a gunman killed 49 people at a gay night club in Orlando, Florida. However, this man shouldn't have been able to legally buy the firearm due to his criminal background. (Gun Control Laws) This example shows that if we have stricter background checks, we could save lives. Lastly, studies show when applying stricter gun laws less crime occurs. In other countries when they established stricter gun laws, less homicides, suicides, and mass shootings had occurred. Due to the evidence of gun crimes occurring, supporters feel more confident in the results the United States might have. In conclusion, all of these changes that could be made would reduce deaths and crimes from happening, which is what the supporters
