Gun Control Analysis Imagine if the world had no more unnecessary gun violence anymore, no more homicides, no more injuries because of unsafe gun use, and no more criminals using guns for harm. People have been trying to stop gun violence since the 1930's, and there has been an ongoing debate on how to solve this epidemic. According to the article "Gun Control Reform" The first gun control laws were established in the 1930's, since then guns have been a fierce debate that grows as time goes on ("Gun Control Reform"). This debate has been over whether gun control laws should be strengthened or not messed with. Supporters of strengthening gun laws say that strengthening them could save lives because it is taking away the tools the shooters are using to kill other Americans. According to a Harvard gun violence researcher David Hemenway: "There is a consensus that strong gun laws reduce homicide" (Doherty). This piece of evidence shows that strengthening gun laws could potentially significantly reduce gun violence. Another argument is that stronger gun laws make it harder for criminals to get guns. In the article "Gun Control Reform," it talks about criminals finding loopholes in the system when it comes to the mental emotional portion, they check out as good on parts of the background check, even if some of them have a history of mental illness, so they are obtaining guns and using them for harm because of these loopholes ("Gun Control Reform"). This example shows that gun control laws need to be strengthened, and that does not necessarily mean guns need to be taken away. One last argument that people have is that it would reduce the deaths of police officers. Police personnel are often targeted by criminals because they enforce the laws, giving criminals guns to fuel their anger can put police and civilians at risk, reducing the number of powerful firearms could reduce the loss of lives, especially police lives ("Gun Control Laws"). This shows that strengthening gun laws could save the lives of police and civilians. Strengthening gun laws could prove to be very useful and save countless lives, but there are two sides to this
