Why did you select this novel?
The name of my novel is Half Brother and it is written by Kenneth Oppel, the governor General’s Award-winning author of the Airborn series and the Silverwing Saga series. I had chosen this novel because my friend suggested it to me and said that it was a really good book to read.Another reason why I chose Half Brother as the book that I would use for novel study is because I have read the Airborn series before and Half Brother is written by the same author. When I read the Airborn series last summer, I thought that it was an intense, action-packed, and fun to read series. Every time I opened the book, I couldn’t stop reading. Also, because something special happens in every chapter, you won’t get bored and you just want to keep reading and reading. I would especially recommend this novel to a friend that likes animals because this book focuses mainly on a baby chimpanzee and how Ben’s family was teaching it American Sign Language so that they could communicate with him. As you read on in the book, it gets more interesting because Zan, the baby chimpanzee learned more words and is now able to form sentences! However, further on in the book, Ben’s family lost the funds that they needed to take care of Zan and they didn’t have enough money to keep Zan, so they had to sell him. This book also talks about how Ben and Zan built friendship and how they got closer and closer to the point that they actually loved each other. At first, Ben didn’t like Zan because he was not a human, but his parents wanted him to love Zan like a brother. However, as they spent more time together and as they learned to communicate with each other and learned to know how each other feels, they started loving each other and provided comfort for each other. Therefore, my friend will love this book because it has a lot of actions tied into it and a book that talks about friendships and love
