Homegrown Terrorism (Allie)
Homegrown terrorism has been defined as “extremist violence perpetrated by [European citizens or legal residents] and linked to or inspired by . . . radical Sunni Islamism,” (Pregulman 2012). The ideology of Islamic extremists that the West is at war with Islam has motivated homegrown terrorists. Like lone wolves, homegrown terrorists rely on the internet to radicalization and support (Pregulman 2012). Lone wolf actors and homegrown terrorists are not separate. Lone wolf actors and homegrown extremists have become more prevalent individually, but more and more both tactics are being employed simultaneously, leading to a rise in homegrown, lone wolf terrorism.
