When we were talking about the issue of homophobia and heterosexism, a group of actors were invited to the classroom to do a scene. The scene is about a simulated daily event happened in Mizzou. It is about the hate of homosexuality on campus. I think the purpose of this activity is to make people recognise homophobia is not far away from us. I think it also serves as an education of how to deal with this kind of conflict in everyday life. The activity is fun and inspiring. Actors are very impressive, especially David. He is a professional actor and he did well under the pressure of all other people are against him. When it was the time to do intervention, the scene became so funny. Everybody’s laughing just because our classmate get involved was doing some normal things. I think this does not mean people are not taking this education opportunity seriously. After all, we were doing pretty well when Hayden came for the speech. It is not because we don’t care about it. We choose this class because we care about relevant issues. I think the main reason that people are laughing is that we are not giving enough time to think and be prepared. Even though there were two brave classmates got in and tried to be active. They didn’t plan ahead what they should do to intervene and lead the situation to a better one. They are basically improvising, which makes the actions inevitably intuitive and simple. Since one purpose of this acting scene is to prepare us for similar situation that may happen later in our lives. I think this purpose is hard to reach if we can not prepare and think thoroughly about what we should do. The suggestion is that there should be time given between the scene acting and intervention. Maybe people should be asked to write down what is a good way to react. Small group discussion is also a good way to generate ideas and get people
