The Impact of house shortage in California It has been nearly 6 years of rising house prices for the state of California. The question everyone is asking is whether 2018 will be the seventh year home prices go up or the year when the market stalls. Californians are spending so much, at least $50 billion in housing more than they do for other activities such as shopping which only means that the high costs in housing are crowding out the personal consumptions and more cash is going to the landlords and to the lenders instead. Earlier projections shows housing costs will continue rise through 2018 even though the gains may be smaller. The supply for new homes sales will fail to keep up with the demand and that will fuel a more cutthroat bidding war. More to that, we expect that the rents will keep rising with the apartment vacancies staying all-time lows. Evidently, homebuilding in California hasn’t been able to keep up with the growth and that is negatively impacting most of the Californians. More shocking is that California ranks dead last in the housing construction on per capita basis in the most recent years. Obviously, change doesn’t come easy, and in California, there is resistance and the challenge therein is to overcome the barriers presently, whether political, cultural, regulatory or even economic, if these challenges were to be overcome, then new dawn is upon the face of the state.
