Katrina Swallow – Unit 307 – Promote person centred approaches in care settings 1.1: Person centred values must influence all aspects of health and adult care work to ensure that all staff are aware of what is right and wrong within their role. A person’s privacy and dignity must be respected at all times to ensure that a relationship of trust is built. A person must be respected to ensure that they feel heard, valued and listened to. Staff should be in partnership with not just each other, but also the individuals they are caring for and the people that they are liaising with to look after them. Residents should be given choices and these should be respected even if not agreed with, and a person’s basic human rights must ALWAYS be respected. This allows everyone’s self esteem and confidence to increase. 1.2: Care plans are important in regard to person centred values to ensure that all members of staff are aware of the needs of that resident, what works well and what doesn’t to ensure that that person receives the best care and support. In care settings, there is usually a responsibility of one person to look after another, and therefore by having risk assessments in place, this reduces the risk of harm, injury and allows you to better support those in your care. Risk assessments analyse the risk, the impact this risk would have, and how likely this risk is to occur. Based off of this, the care worker can decide what must be put in place to ensure this person’s safety, and ensure that they feel happy, safe and supported and in the least restrictive way
