Lady Macbeth’s demeanor is introduced as soon as she appears in the play. She begins to show her true colors and progresses as an individual throughout Macbeth. Women during this time had several social restraints but Lady Macbeth seems to defy that restraint as she is seen as one of the most powerful women in not only the play; but of all of Shakespeare’s pieces. She herself has no great power like the king’s and thane’s, but she greatly influences her husband, Macbeth, to do all the dirty work for them to rise in power. Lady Macbeth’s character is revealed as evil, ambitious, manipulative, and very weak. Her character within the play had very bad intentions that are evident from the start. After Macbeth murdered Duncan, she told him “My hands are of your colour; but I shame to wear a heart so white.” (Mac 2.2.68-69). Lady Macbeth is shaming Macbeth for feeling guilty about the murder, she told him that she felt no guilt whatsoever. She goes to the depth of questioning his masculinity to persuade Macbeth to murder by saying the time and place were perfect and he needed to stop being a coward. “When you durst do it, then you were a man; and, to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man.” (Mac 1.7.49-51). Throughout the play, Lady Macbeth becomes more and more desperate to get her wishes. “Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty.” (Mac 1.5.30-33). When hearing of Macbeth’s prophecy, she delivers a speech saying that she would be willing to resolve her femininity to do the deeds for Macbeth to be crowned. She tells him that to leave the plan alone and let her do it because he isn’t capable; she continues to belittle his masculinity so she can manipulate
