Between my liberal arts education and the internship that I have recently started at the Innocence Project of Minnesota both will be invaluable contributing factors for my career goals. My liberal arts education demonstrates to employers that my knowledge is not just localized to a single field, but instead it is a large breadth of subjects spanning multiple fields. The way I’ve always viewed my liberal arts education is that it makes me a jack-of-all-trades. My internship on the other hand serves a slightly different purpose. My internship demonstrates to an employers that I’m more than just a jack-of-all-trades, it shows that there is one trade that I’m trying to master. For me, this trade is legal studies, which I intend on continuing into law school until I am a fully fledged lawyer. First off, I want to gauge what I’ve learned throughout my courses at Hamline University. I intend on gauging my skills by simply showing up everyday and trying to push myself above and beyond what is expected of me. Within the first three days of working there, I have already started to apply legal education, and now all I need to do is keep pushing myself until I find the limit. Another goal that I have set is to ties back into my first goal. Once I have found out what I don’t know I’ll know what skills I need to start developing. I’ll be able to track this by making note of the areas where I struggle, and then focus on developing those skills. Lastly, I would like to use this internship as an opportunity to network, and start making a name for myself in the legal community. I’ll be able to achieve this by trying to make the best impression I can on my coworkers, and the lawyers that we work
