Underage drinking is a gigantic problem in the world we live in today, especially in the age range of 17-20 year olds. It is caused by teens wanting to be “cool” and have a sense of “freedom”. But lowering the drinking age would destroy a MLDA ( Minimum Legal Drinking Age) age that has been set at the age of 21 that since 1933. As a consequence, reports from 1970 show that there were more teenage car accidents due to setting the MLDA lower than 21. So not only would lowering the MLDA destroy the MLDA that has been since 1933 but also cause tragedies all over the USA. For example, setting the MLDA age of 18 would allow people of that age to irresponsibly drink at bars and clubs. Paradoxically, 18 year olds, if allowed to drink, “will not drink responsibly and will most likely harm themselves or another person” according to ProCon.org (http://drinkingage.procon.org). …show more content…

Such as, the drugs, hallucinogens (causes hallucinations similarly to LSD) and amphetamines (mood altering drug/drug to treat children with ADD and adults with narcolepsy). In the same way, lowering the drinking age will most likely “spark an interest in younger. ages” (www.newsweek.com) or the age range of 14-17 leading to drinking in ages along those lines. To explain further, think about it if 18 year olds already have fake i.d’s what are the younger ages going to do when and if the MLDA is lowered . So let's be honest if 18 year olds have fake i.d’s then the ages of 14-17 are bound to start making them too. Ultimately, adding on to the fake i.d’s and easier access to illicit drugs is alcoholism. Alcoholism is a mental disease that make one depend on drinking and alcohol to fix their loneliness or people use it to drown themselves and forget about everything. To get rid of
