Faith: My Writing History Writing has always been easy for me. Up until seventh grade, it had always been something I enjoyed, a way to express myself. In seventh grade, I started to question my writing right after I got my first C on a writing assignment. At the end of seventh grade, I had a pen pal I would write to monthly which helped me get outside encouragement for my writing. Then in eighth grade, I began to work harder and would spend hours upon hours on a single project. That earned me a 104% on my poetry with helped me become more confident in my writing. I was no longer embarrassed or ashamed of my writing and actually began to think my writing was good. It took a big toll on my writing, I hated writing and reading after I failed. I never wanted to go to English class or do my homework. That's when my teacher told me that the reason he failed me was because he knew I could do better. On that day. I told myself that I would try harder on my writing which led me to enjoying writing again. Then, at the end of seventh grade, I met my mentor, Kristy. We started writing letters to each other which really helped me excel. We write to each other at least once every month. We write letters of encouragement to each other. Often, she compliments my writing and encourages me to try. That played a huge role in my writing in eighth grade. In eighth grade, I got an 104% on my poetry project. In that project I wrote a poem about of my dog, Trixie, inspired by winter and a poem about green beans inspired by the school's lunch. When the project was assigned, I would come home daily and work on it for at least a half hour. Whether I was working on the cover or writing a poem itself, I was trying hard.
