I was not really sure I understood what technical writing really was when I first was deliberating on taking this class. Once I started this course, I realized that technical communication is all around us. It has become so fundamental in everyone's lives, not just technical business employees. In my field of study, Database and Web Programming, technical writing will be a very important part of my job in the real world. This course has been a learning experience, in ways I did not fully expect. I have never really been an inspired writer. Because of this, I have not had much practice in writing, and that gave me the notion that I was terrible at writing. However, after these 14 weeks, I have come to a realization. As with so many other aspects of my life, I feel as though I might have been too down on my self. I have always loved English, and I never really thought about that directly translating to writing skill, as strange as that might sound. Of course, that is not to say I am perfect by any means. I know I can do it. I feel like I have more of a confidence in writing, like it does not seem so daunting. In ways, this can be seen as one of the most important things I have learned through all of these weeks. There would be no point in learning the cornerstones of writing, technical and otherwise, if you do not have the resolve or confidence in being able to actually use that knowledge to put your own words down.
