When Native Americans refused to give up their ways of life, the government forced them onto plots of land called reservations. Life was hard on reservations and decently hard to stay alive. Many Native Americans died on reservations due to starvation and dehydration. Due to Native American struggles congress passed a law saying that all families would get 160 acres of land for free and in 25 years from then become American citizens, this was called the Dawes act. When Native Americans tried this new plan most were unsuccessful. Farming in the lands required great expertise that the Native Americans lacked. Today, Indians still live on reservations, but they are healthy and wealthy because they own casinos on their reservations. They also still have most of their cultural values and beliefs. They also still have their own ways of living life. nrcprograms.com Indian reservations are like concentration camps for Native Americans. I believe this because during the times of concentration camps, Jews were forced onto plots of land called concentration camps because of their religion. Life on this land was terrible, people dying every single day. It was the same for Indian reservations. Food was very limited you only got certain amounts every day and living conditions were wicked and massively deadly. They had little food because the land was very dry and hard for farming. Farming was scarce in these lands because there weren’t many people who even had the skills to farm these dry lands. After all these tragedies Native Americans still kept their cool and way of Indian life. I say that all the hard work paid off because now they have a great life. The Indian reservations now have lots of casinos and money. After all these goods they still have their Indian culture that they will never lose.
