PROBLEM: What problem/pain point creates a promising business opportunity?
Over the years, losing weight and exercise have become essential to everyday Americans due to the obesity epidemic, but it seems almost impossible to exercise for many people. There are numerous variables that go into why Americans aren’t exercising and how we can improve these numbers.
To begin my research on this problem I wanted to figure out where this problem is the most prominent. According to Kristian Sjøgren, people who live in cities exercise less due to the amount of pollution. Since we’ve figured out where the problem is the next step is to narrow this down by choosing one of the sexes. BBC has noted that out of men and women, women are the ones who tend to exercise less. In America 39.5% of women that are 20-39 years old are obese according to obesity.org. Along with this, 35.4% of men and women age 40-59 are also obese. What this means is that people between the ages of 20 and 59 are experiencing problems with maintaining their weight. Hence, I will be targeting people in middle range ages of 25-45 to get a more direct view of these people.
Looking closer at this specific group of people, we can see the problems that are occurring for these people. Middle-aged women tend not to exercise as much as any of these other groups for a wide variety of reasons such as: joint pain, fatigue, depression, work schedule, and in general being busy. These come with aging and being in the middle stage of life these people are adjusting to these new problems. This leads to them ending up getting stuck where they can’t seem to find a reason to do much on their free
