According to an article on CBS news in the last 20 years “The average American has put on 15 or more pounds without getting any taller.” How we treat our bodies is key to living a long healthy life.
This morning I’m going to be talking about importance maintain a healthy body composition, some simple exercises that we can do to keep ourselves healthy and some ways to get proper nutrition.
The trend of obesity is growing fast in the United States. A graph shown on the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases shows the prevalence of obesity among Americans has significantly increased particularly in the 1980’s.

It is important to include regular exercise in your normal schedules. We often think that we don’t have enough time for exercise or that we won’t be able to do enough. This is not the case a couple of exercises can be done in your own home. There are many things you can do such as basic crunches to work your core or walking around to do cardio. Since we are also living in a time where social media is practically the center of everything we can use that to our advantage and instead of paying a fee for a trainer at a local gym we can go online a get a trainer for free in sites such as YouTube. Exercising does not need to take a long part of your day 20-30 minute can do a lot to your body.
A huge myth to maintaining a healthy weight is that “if you exercise a lot you can eat whatever you want and it will balance each other out” this is not the case what we choose to eat is the second main factor which determines your body composition. The body needs six essential nutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, fat, vitamins, minerals, and water. We can obtain carbohydrates from grains such as pasta and bread, they serve as an energy for the body. Eggs, beans, nuts, and soy are considered proteins.
