Obesity has become a major issue in the United States today. The number of people who are overweight has increased dramatically. A study done by the Centers of Disease Control showed that since 1980, one third of our adult population has become overweight. America is known as the richest nation but also we’ve become the fattest nation as well (Rutten). There was a time when Americans went crazy over being fit and healthy they dieting, jumping onto the treadmills, and buying prepackaged non-fat foods. Now, I believe American are waiting for the next big food ordeal to hit the market. I believe that the junk-food manufacturers are part to blame for the rising epidemic. And it’s true everywhere you turn and look now there is an advertisement for something new from a manufacturer that doesn’t necessarily sell something healthy. Food is constantly shoved at us, and there seems to be no way to get around the message of “you have to eat.” There seems to be no way to achieve fitness goals because there are too many obstacles. I disagree with that, you have to make yourself uncomfortable to be comfortable with yourself. There is inability in us all, it’s whether or not we are going to let it make us dormant and become slugs. We have become toxic to ourselves, we can be the cure but it’s takes an act of congress for us to get up of our duffs and become the change we need. In order for us to do that we have to see the light at the end of the tunnel. “How Junk Food Can End Obesity” was published and had some very good points for how the industry is trying to get better with its offerings and also how expensive it is to eat healthy (Freedman). I understand his point of view in his article and where he was going with it all. I don’t think David Freedman took into account that it doesn’t take a fast food chain changing their menu, we can overcome our own demons and kick our bad eating
