There are many issues and serious cases which could arise if we make this practice legal. If the United States decides to expand physician assisted suicide, we will see many issues with humanity. When doctors decide to assist with suicide they are violating the Hippocratic Oath which states, “ I will keep [the sick] from harm and injustice. I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody who asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect.” No one, including medical professionals, should have the right to kill a human being (“Pros and Cons”). It will change the way medical practices are done today and can interfere with the profession of medicine by permitting the tools of curing to be used as techniques for killing. Assisted suicide can potentially destroy the patient-doctor relationship. This issue ruins the trust and confidence patients have in their physicians because it makes a patient second guess their doctor’s commitment to their life and health as a patient.
