Assisted Suicide
Physician - assisted suicide is when an ill patient wants to end their suffering and requests a physician to give them information about it. If the patient is still interested, the physician will guide them through it and record their status. It should not be frowned upon because the patient themselves approve of the assisted suicide, knowing it was their choice as they die. Physicians have a responsibility to relieve pain, suffering, and respect the patient’s wishes, as well. It is also beneficial to the hospital and to the patient’s close friends and family. The process of assisted suicide begins with the patient’s decision.
When a diseased patient decides to end their suffering, they are agreeing to an eased procedure. One that does not cause too much pain and does not take a long time. They die knowing it was their choice to die in an assisted suicide instead of an erratic sudden death. They chose to die in dignity. If they were denied their request, the patient could be so desperate for the removal of pain and suffering that they could commit suicide in another way that is much more excruciating and alarming.
