The United States of America used to be called The Land of the Free, Land of Opportunity and Land of Milk and Honey. But in America today, it can be quite the contrary, America is not the same as it is used to. The challenges America face today such as unemployment, poverty, and sexism are causing these great names to lose its value. If these challenges do continue America we know and love will slowly diminish into a third world country.

Confucius, Chinese teacher, and philosopher proclaimed "In a country well governed, poverty is something to be ashamed of. In a country badly governed, wealth is something to be ashamed of." In the United States today, a 1st world country with constant advancements and wealth cannot support its people is ridiculous. People of all ages aren't getting their basic needs and in life in poverty. According to the Census Bureau, “more than 45 million people, or 14.5 percent of all Americans, lived below the poverty line last year.” If the fact so many people are living in poverty doesn't surprise you, the number of children in poverty will. In 2015, 19.7% of all children (14.5 million kids) lived in Poverty USA—that’s about 1 in every 5 children. If the United States cannot support children, who are the future of America. The United States is unable to supply its people with jobs. According to the Office for National Statistics, “by the end of 2011, 2.7 Million (10%-ish) Americans were unemployed.” If the unemployment number continues, it will be disastrous for the United States. In addition “the average American spends 33 weeks looking for a job when unemployed.” If the average American can not find a job, it is like a removing a basic right from a human being. Being able to provide for oneself should be a basic right among all humans, which saddens me when 10% of the population is unemployed and may lead to
