I have a dream that poverty won’t be an obstacle to the American Dream. This would help the number of homeless people in America decrease and unemployment would lower. Many would say poverty is not an obstacle and is something that is caused by themselves. Moreover, most people will say that poverty is caused by the person and isn’t something that everyone goes through. Although it has been stated plenty of times, “poverty is caused by inequalities in income and access to resources.” Which is true because most people in poverty are just not able to afford basic needs because of their wages. “Poverty can also be caused by trauma and unhealthy mental state.” This is the cause for a good amount of people in poverty, for example, many people get depressed after losing a family member and …show more content…

However, I still think poverty is still possible, even when you do these things. I can understand why people think that poverty is self-led. Poverty is something that should not stop people from achieving the American Dream. Poverty is caused by the low wages and unequal opportunities in the workplace. Wages in America are so low and the cost of goods is so high that they have to find ways to save and conserve money to afford living. Most Americans in poverty end up staying in poverty, but either way it's hard to overcome poverty. Poverty is harder to overcome because you become depressed and it is really hard to get a job when you are homeless and don’t have access to certain things. Although poverty can be self-inflicted, it takes more than you can overcome. Poverty is one of the main reasons that Americans go through trying to obtain the American Dream.
