Addictions are rapidly growing all over the world. Every day we are progressively living in a world where prescription drug abuse is one of the fastest growing problems in America. The amount of abuse has increased in the past 10 years due to the misuse of prescribed medication. There has been a widespread of distribution which, is nearly impossible to ignore since this drug was first introduced in America. So, what is considered as an addiction? An addictions is someone who is constantly using a substance that is known to be harmful on the user. There is a great chance that an individual who abuses a prescription drug will eventually become addicted.
My main focus on this paper will be the abuse of opioids that include OxyContin and Vicodin.

According to the Drug-free world, “almost 50% of teens believe that prescription drugs are much safer than illegal street drugs- 60% to 70% say that home medicine cabinets are their source of drugs” (Drug-Free World, 2016).
On the other hand the, “AARP Magazine, reports that while some drugs may come with negative consequences, other have ancillary “surprise” benefits that may promote general well-being, fortify the body’s protection against disease, and even aid future therapy” (Ericson, 2013).
Prescription drugs does not only decrease the risk of any life-threatening illnesses. It has some advantages as well. Some cough syrups that consists codeine are used on patients that have a sever cough that seems to not go away with any OTC cough medication. Antibiotics are also being used to treat a patient who has some sort of infection.
