Prescription Drugs is rising among Teens
Substance abuse with prescription drugs among young teens is rising. Cases of deaths have only spiked and people’s lives are being destroyed from using prescription drugs. Most of these prescription drugs contain opium like OxyContin, Percocet, and Vicodin; the three leading in most abused. The dosage can also factor into how abusive and addicting these medications can be. Prescription drugs are being abused because of peer pressure, injuries, and unsustainable control when being prescribed these drugs especially among young teens.
Peer pressure is everywhere it’s in schools; it’s in sports, and is one thing you will live with for the rest of your life. It can influence you to do bad things, or good things. Nine kids died in Kentucky within a nine-month period, these kids went to the same school; had classes together and all died from prescription drug overdose. So when you’re making friends, make sure you surround yourself with the right people. According to the article, “Misuse of Prescription Drugs” National Institute on Drug Abuse states, “Prescription drug misuse can have serious medical consequences.” (NIDA). …show more content…

Serious long term injuries most likely need medication to heal and that’s where prescription drugs get involved these athletes tend to take too many or have tried them before. Numbers have been on the rise substantially in the past 10 years.
