Daniel Galindo p.6 The speech of Patrick Henry The Virginia convention had a well written speech written by Patrick Henry. He uses persuasion techniques in his speech to persuade everyone at the convention such as Pathos. He uses this wisely and amazing for the speech he gave. They were in the time period of Britain taking control and they had no independence.
The StoryCorps’ 476th podcast episode titled “Mrs. Yetta Bronstein for President”, is about pranking the media and causing a bit on mayhem in an otherwise often very serious business. Jeanne and Alan Abel are the prankster masterminds behind the 1964 and 1968 presidential campaign of Yetta Bronstein, the fictional write-in candidate for “The Best Party”. The ruse was set up to prank and mislead the media with Jeanne voicing the single New York mother who stood for values such as putting guns in every household but decreasing the bullet velocity by 95% and taking Congress of salary to put them on strict commission. Persuasion or manipulation, one lets you select the choice yourself and the other attempts to make the choice for you. Persuasion is the action of cause someone to do something through reasoning or argument. Henry’s Speech in the Virginia Convention and Franklin's The Speech in the Convention both are prime examples of persuasion. There are numerous ways to persuade someone, whether it’s antithesis, restatement, repetition, or rhetorical questions; These are examples of rhetorical devices are exceptional tools for persuading an audience. Franklin uses antithesis as well as logic to persuade his audience to unanimously pass the constitution, while Henry uses parallel rhetorical questions and appealed to the audience's sense of logos and ethos to persuade his audience that we must go to war with Britain.
Essentially, the heart of persuasion consists of appeals to logic, credibility, and emotion. In his book, The Big Con: The Story of the Confidence Man, David Mauer describes how con artists are persuasive and explains the con in ten steps. In the book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell uses the persuasive techniques such as figurative language, rhetorical questions, and analogies to persuade readers that the American view of success is wrong, and that success is the product of opportunities, hidden advantages, and hard work. In Chapter Two, these techniques are used to describe his idea of “The 10,000-Hour Rule” - that belief it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at something. Gladwell’s basis for the 10,000-hour rule is that people who are experts in their field became so good from hidden and rare opportunities that allowed them to practice their skills. One example gladwell uses are The Beatles, whom Gladwell identifies as one of the most famous rock bands ever.

After reading the chapters and articles on reciprocity I was really intrigued by the idea of reciprocity. I have been to Africa many times and I was reminded a lot of the Senegalese people when reading the articles. Many people in America do not really understand how much of what they get is so good when compared to other countries. We live in a place where we think we are the best and deserve everything and expect everything to get handed to us. An example of Generalized reciprocity in America are the farmers of our world.

In Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech, one sees many of the rhetorical techniques Patrick Henry utilized to convey his message. Henry’s development of allusions, repetition, and emotional appeals evoked the members of the Virginia Convention to revolt against the British monarchy. Allusions were a major component in Patrick Henry’s speech that helped get his idea of revolting across to his audience. The colonists were frustrated with the British during this time, and Henry felt as if they were “betrayed by a kiss.”
Where you need some type of protection and realize oh I guess my fists and words are the only protection I need. Apparently that’s what Columbia believes. I also don’t understand when they say “prohibited the carrying of unlicensed handguns or other deadly or dangerous weapons capable of being concealed”. I would understand you getting in trouble for carrying a handgun not registered. A good majority would have their handgun registered , if you let them get it registered.

Market exchange (capitalism) is considered an intensely social relationship and is generally understood as giving money to get something. Oftentimes, these exchanges are conducted directly between members of society, and so, social interactions and behaviors form as a result of constant back and forth; business transactions. If one does not have money, then one does not have the means to own private property; you do not have the means to engage in market exchange.
