The topic of the research study is racial profiling. Racial profiling is the use of race or ethnicity as grounds for suspecting someone of having committed an offense. Often times black men are looked upon as a threat simply because of their appearance, their black skin automatically make them a suspect and or threat to society. Racial profiling against black men, especially in today’s society, has a major impact on black men’s lives. Stereotyping effects black communities, families, and the individual’s life. One major conflict in the community due to stereotyping is the relationship between cops and black men. In today’s society men face the fear of police brutality and being arrested. In recent years African American men have been detained, abused, and killed by police just because of their skin color. Many victims were unarmed and haven’t committed a crime but many cops would go on power trips and do such things just because they stereotyped these men. We live in a time where blacks have to force themselves to be less black in order to be accepted. No one should have to live every day of their life fearing that that could be their last because of their race. As a result of racial profiling black men have to change their lifestyles so that they don’t become the next victim. Could you imagine living to please others? This is what has to happen in order for black men to not be looked upon as a “typical black man.” There’s no such thing as a typical black man but racial profiling has caused stereotypes that people live by
