School shootings are not a friendly topic. With most people, it hits a rather soft spot inside of them and can elicit feelings of sadness and fear. This is understandably so, as school shootings are one of the more disgusting acts of violence in our world today. They are also becoming more and more frequent over the years. Since 2013, there have been “over 200 school shootings in America - an average of nearly one per week” (Everytown). The image to the left provided by Everytown shows the general area where those 200 something shootings have happened. Thinking about how often this is happening these days is a terrifying thought. Bullying itself is terrible and unbearable to go through, but imagine that you suffer from it in high school every day. Being taunted and teased until you feel empty inside. Now think of what it would be like to never escape that feeling. This is what high school is for some people due to bullying, but both in person and online. They are never able to escape the prodding words or the disrespectful slurs. Even in their home, social media haunts them as more and more hurtful words come pouring through the screen.
A huge amount of people do not understand the full effect of bullying. Bullying can lead to depression, loss of friends, and low grades. One thing that people do not always associate with school shooters is suicide. They assume that the shooter just wanted to kill people and cause mayhem. This is true for some, but for others it is a violent cry for help. In some instances, bullying and suicide can go hand in hand. If someone is bullied to the point where they lose their regard for their own life, a whole sea of violent actions can become a possibility to those kids who were not taught how to handle
