Rocks are solid, hard and dry parts of the earth’s crust. Scientist who study rocks (Geologists) have classified rocks based on their formation processes, appearance, and sometimes their mineral compositions. Even though they are various types of rocks, Sedimentary and Igneous rocks are two very intriguing rock types which catches the attention of people who have interest in studying rocks. Sedimentary and Igneous rocks are interesting rock types to examine because even though they differ completely in their in their formation processes, texture, mineral composition and location, they also have some similarities in their history, and most importantly their use to mankind in various parts of the world.

One obvious similarity is their mineral history. These two rock types share a common history of existence because, they are formed purely from natural circumstances. They are rocks that are formed by conditions emanating from natural forces such heat. Even though they formed from different locations like in the valley for sedimentary rocks and on the mountains for igneous, one thing common within them is that they are formed from material deposition and heat.
Similarly, both sedimentary and igneous rocks are very accessible to man and mostly affordable for construction purposes. For many years, these specific rock types have been used to construct houses and bridges in many parts of the world. Many people prefer Sedimentary rocks for construction because it is easy to crush and shape or carve while igneous rocks are well known for their durability since they are hard.
It is therefore due to these similarities and differences that exist between rocks that scientist take the pain to study rocks and classify them into various groups.
