Softball Softball is a sport that is greatly populated throughout the world. From George Hancock throwing a boxing glove after a football game to now with national leagues, softball has an amazing history. If you are a softball player, you may need to know the positions, history and the object, or point, of softball. The most important part of softball is it’s 9 field positions and knowing where and how to play them. The positions that are in the field is catcher, pitcher, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd base, shortstop, center field, left field, and right field. On the offensive side is the batter/runner. The 3 key, or most important, positions are pitcher, shortstop, and catcher. Pitcher has the main job and is basically the main focus. The pitcher is used to deliver the ball to the batter. They stand on the pitcher’s mound which is for junior league, 35 ft., and intermediate and on, 40 ft. from home plate. The pitchers in softball pitch underhand, which is one of the main differences of softball and baseball. Shortstop is another important position because they retrieve the ball, tag runners, and throw to other players. Shortstop stands in between 2nd and 3rd base, but is a little bit closer to 2nd. There are usually 7 innings, but is there are more, it means that the game has been tied. The goal of the offensive side, the batters, is to score as many runs and to hit as many balls as they can. The defensive side, the fielders, is to prevent as many runs and commit as many strikes as they can. As the text previously said, the softball field must be smaller than a baseball field and the ball is much bigger than a regular baseball. Also, as it had also said, there are 9 total field positions and the offense has batters/runners. Softballs game object is basically to score, or prevent, runs, have 7 innings,and 9 positions on the field, plus the
