Some may have heard of reconstruction. Reconstruction was some of the hardest part of American history. The real question is who killed it? North or South? The South killed reconstruction because of the KKK (Klu Klux Klan),they complained like little kids to the north, and all of the racism that was going on. However, that’s not all that happened during the 1870’s. Fun facts for everyone! For example, not many people know that the first Easter egg hunt was held on the White House lawn in 1877! Also, in 1869 the first ever college football game was played between Princeton and Rutgers. First off, what even was reconstruction? Reconstruction happened after the Civil War has just ended. The Civil War was where the South seceded from the Union and they weren’t happy. The Union won the Civil War and wanted to reconstruct the South and all of the terrible destruction that had happened. Some little tips of the Klu Klux Klan is that they were a supremacist group. Anyone that wasn’t white or disagreed with them, they (KKK) felt that they shouldn’t be alive. So in these kinds of terms, they were a terrorist organization. In a letter, a Republican Senator wrote a letter to Joseph Carter Abbott “I have very little doubt that I shall be one of the next victims,” and also said that the Klansmen were killing, “... brave, honest republican,” (Tourgee,511).
