Once you are born in America, you are considered an American citizen, you have benefits that others outside of this country don’t. For instance, you can run for office one day. As an American citizen we pertain many rights, such as freedom of religion, speech and press. Americans have the rights to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures. As well as the right for citizens of the age 18 to vote. Although Americans have many rights, they also have duties and obligations to their country. Such as, taking the oath of allegiance, to honor and respect the freedom and opportunities you have in America because of your citizenship, to respect the rights, beliefs, and opinions of others. The free exercise clause clearly states, that we have the freedom to practice or not practice any religion we want. The second clause is the establishments, which informs us that the federal government cannot favor or discriminate against any religion. Freedom of speech and press also fall under the first amendment, freedom of speech, clarifies that you as an American citizen have the right to speak without fear, restraint from the government. Although, you are not limited to your speech, sometimes it comes with consequences, for example yelling the word “bomb” on an airplane, would result in consequence. When it comes to freedom of the press, the amendment is specifying that you have the right to express your opinion, without constraint, from the government. You can express your opinion online, in a journal, or a news article and you shall not face consequences.
