In the book The Kind Diet, Alicia Silverstone states, “Every little kid is born with an innate love of animals. Animals are complete and individual creatures, each with a distinct personality, and children connect with that.” If there is any value that I have held to be true for almost my entire life, it is that all sentient beings should be cherished. My love for animals was evident from the start. Back when I lived in Argentina, I would play with any living organism I came across: farm animals, my family’s three dogs, insects, and even arachnids. Up until three and a half years ago, I was blind to my own negligence towards my values. Throughout my life as a vegetarian, there was not a single thing I loved more than artisanal cheese, creamy sauces, and decadent ice cream. I constantly said that I would never become a vegan; I was an avid lover of dairy and egg products. In spite of that, my views changed completely after I came across a video. Before, I had always avoided videos that show the horrors of the dairy and egg industry because I refused to see the truth, but something compelled me to click play this time around. The second I saw calves being ripped away from their mothers and male chicks being thrown away like garbage, I decided it was time for a change. I announced to my parents, “I’m going vegan.” At first, they did not believe me; but after two months passed, they realized I was committed to this new lifestyle and joined me.
