The Middle Ages And The 21st Century
A thousand years of the European history are spanned by the phrase, ‘Middle Ages’. This era witnessed the ‘Dark Ages’ – at time of migration, upheavals and wars. It began with the decline of the Western Roman Empire and merged into the Renaissance and the Age of Discovery. It was at this time period where the stories of kings and queens, princes and princesses, and knights and heroes occurred/were based on. The three topics that I would use to compare and contrast the Middle Ages to the 21st Century are: the political structure of the time, the music of the time, and the technology of the time.

Music in the Middle ages included music of the Roman Catholic Church. During this time, the most important musicians were priests and worked for the church. An important occupation in thousands of monasteries was liturgical singing. Boys received music education in schools associated with churches and cathedrals. Also, women were not allowed to sing inside the church but are allowed to make music in convents. Most Medieval Ages were vocal. Though a wide variety of instruments such as harp, korholt, organetto helped the improvement of Middle Ages’ music. Nowadays, popular music is based on trends. One artist or a group of artist comes along and popularizes an aspect of popular music and then suddenly everyone is capitalizing on that. Some of modern genre songs include country, religious rock, folk, hip hop, jazz, and pop. There are a lot of choices of songs nowadays. Today, people have the choice to pick their favorite music.
