The Red Umbrella, by Christina Diaz Gonzalez and “ Band Aid for 800 Children”, by Eli Saslow both show the subject of Immigration and how it changes families. The Authors use different techniques to help the reader know the subject. Although they also use the some of the same techniques to express the the subject to the reader. It can show the effects of Immigration and how it changes families. Both of the texts have many differences and similarities. Here are some Similarities from both text. They both portray the tone of Sadness or Hurt. In the “Red Umbrella” it says “ He offered it to her while his own tears fell to the floor.” An example from” Band-Aid for 800 Children” says “She does this as a volunteer and often at her own expense, not because she …show more content…

In “Band-Aid for 800 Children” it shows that the Character is hurt or sad because she was the only one who wanted to help Children with deported parents. These examples both state a tone of sadness or being hurt making it similar. Another similarity is the topic of Family Separation. In “The Red Umbrella” it says ”We’ve made plans for you to leave Cuba … tomorrow.” An example from “Band-Aid for 800 Children” says “A few thousand of those children lose both parents. “Immigration orphans,” is how the government refers to this group.” Both of these examples from the text show a topic of separation because it states the family would be seperated. The last example of a similarity is a theme about taking a risk can be beneficial and for the better good. In “ The Red Umbrella” Papa says it will be for the better good and it will be a risk so they are not taken away. In “ Band-Aid for 800 Children” it states that Nora is taking a risk of being responsible for children and that it will help them by taking the Risk. Both of these statements show risk
