Describe the different types of third parties that have been formed in the United States and discuss the effects of third parties on American politics.
The Libertarian party (LP)
The libertarian party is a political party in the United States formed to promote non-interventionism, abolition of welfare state, civil liberties, and laissez-fare capitalism. LP was formed in the springs of Colorado on December 1971 in Colorado. Part of the reasons behind the formation of the party is the concerns about the Vietnam War, the end of the gold standard, and the Nixon administration. LP promotes classical liberalism (Nwazota). LP has 411,250 registered voters in 27 states (Nwazota). The party usually has a popular vote during elections and has many running candidates in every election making it the U.S third largest national party. LP has not won any seat in the U.S Congress but has won various seats in state legislatures (Nwazota). On the left wing are parties that have a left liberal, social democratic, progressive, or Marxist platform. Such parties include the Justice Party USA, Socialist Action, Communist Party USA, Workers world party, and other small parties. On the left wing, there are state-only parties such as the California national party and ethnic nationalism parties such as The American Freedom Party. There are other many small third parties in the United States of America. Several times third parties in U.S have been successful in various U.S elections
