My decision to pursue a graduate degree is to benefit the public, myself and my family. Obtaining my Associate degree was one of the best days of my life. Beside me having four kids and living from paycheck to paycheck I knew it would benefit me. Shortly after graduation, I secured my first job at a well-known hospital affiliation. I knew everything was falling in place and I had decided to become a nurse, because I had been an CNA (certified nursing assistant) and I loved helping people. Something happened with one of my children and I knew the medical field was very demanding when working with patients directly so I decided to go back for Health Care Administration. I knew if I can secure me a state government job, I had job security because of the sick, vacation, community service, benefits, and being vested. I had also hoped that with me getting my degree it will step me up also. After, 310 applications with the state here I am working for state government and it’s with Public Health like I anticipated. I personally do have experience because my job title is Administrative Associate II, working in the Children and Youth Branch, and it is Public Health. Rapidly after being with the state 7 months I received my undergraduate degree in Health Care Administration and started applying for other jobs amongst the state after being on my job for a year. I was applying for jobs in my Unit and outside my Unit. It seems like I was not getting the response I wanted. Therefore, I went and talked to my immediate supervisor and asked her what was I doing wrong? She had advised me to go back to school and receive my Masters in Public Health or Public Administration. I was so disappointed, I thought to myself, I just finished school and have not landed a job in my career. All kinds of thoughts were running through my head and all I can think about is I am debt with student loans. I am still making the same salary I was before I got my degree. There was numerous of people telling me that you can go to the hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and insurance
