Thesis: The US should not have used the atomic bomb because of the damage it caused to Japan and because Japan was ready to surrender. The US should not have used the atomic bomb because of the unnecessary damage it caused to Japan. The first atomic bomb that dropped on Japan was called the Little Boy, and it was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Those caught in the middle of this maelstrom were the lucky ones. They died instantly, vaporized into puffs of smoke or carbonized into small, blackened smoking corpses, mummified in their last living gesture. People farther away from the source of the thermal wave were destined for longer agonies. The Little Boy did so much damage to Japan because of the unnecessary amount of innocent people that it killed. It killed so many civilians that the ones who died instantly were considered the lucky ones. This is because they would not have to go through the pain and suffering that the bomb created for many people in Japan, just to meet their fate of death shortly after. It also did a lot of damage to Hiroshima itself, making it inhabitable for anyone, not just the ones who got hit by the initial blast of the bomb. This was unnecessary and did not help the US in their war against Japan because it killed innocent civilians in Japan, not the ones fighting for their military. Also, after the Little Boy dropped on Hiroshima, 48,000 buildings were destroyed, around 100,000 people died on the first day, and the death toll climbed to 140,000 by the end of the year.
