During World War One, America’s decision to join the war was a critical turning point in the outcome of the war for the Allies. Before this contribution, America’s position in the war was neutral but highly productive and consequently, their economy flourished. However, the major event bringing America into war was the sinking of Lusitania. It can be clearly argued that America’s involved is WW1 was a major turning point in the outcome of the war. Source 2, a very reliable secondary source claims that “the Americans joining WW1 ended the war sooner than it would have.” This quote is explaining that the declaration of war on the 6th of April 1917 which America made against Germany was a positive turning point for the Allies. WW1 was an ongoing onslaught that was at a stalemate until the entrance of America in WW1 (source 2). May 7th, 1915 was the turning point for America – the sinking of Lusitania. Germany announced unrestricted submarine warfare in February 1915 (source 6). This was provoked by Britain because Germany received a blockade from their powerful navy (source 4). Source 6 is a highly reliable source from history.com and they have stated “…that the loss of Lusitania perished more than 1100 passengers including 128 Americans.” Sinking of Lusitania contributed greatly for the turning point of America’s position in WW1, and more U.S. ships followed. In November 1915, a German U-boat sunk an Italian liner without warning killing 270 people and more than 25 Americans, (Source 6).
